Ozaukee Fish Passage Native Fish Swimming Performance
Native Fish Swimming Performance
- Our native fish are large and deep bodied. They are good for rapidly swimming short distance, or “bursts” for less than 15 seconds and for “sustained” movements against current velocities at less than 2 ft/s. However, they are poor for prolonged swimming and jumping. Most road crossing culverts are designed to efficiently pass water at greater than 2ft/s, and many are also perched.
