Treasures of Oz Driving Hints - 2018

1. Mequon-Thiensville Dam and Fishway

Lat/Long 43.231059, -87.979192

  • Location: at the dam in Thiensville Village Park at 250 Elm Street
  • Take I-43 to westbound Mequon Road/Hwy 57
  • Head west for about 3 miles to N. Cedarburg Road (stop light here)
  • Turn north for 7/10 mile on N. Cedarburg to Green Bay Road
  • Turn right for 2/10 mile to Elm Street
  • Turn left onto Elm Street and destination is the Village Park parking lot on the right
  • Look for the Treasures of Oz flag and signs.

2. Bike Path Island and the Ozaukee Interurban Trail

Lat/Long 43.334454, -87.946484

  • Park at the Grafton Family Aquatic Center
  • From Thiensville Dam, go west on Elm St, then turn north on Green Bay Road
  • Continue on Green Bay Road for 5.3 miles until you take a sharp left across the railroad tracks at Community Bank
  • Turn right for 1.1 miles on Wisconsin Avenue to Washington Ave.
  • Cross Washington Avenue (it becomes 12th Ave, then Green Bay Road)

OR

  • Take I-43 to Exit 92 to WI-60
  • Head west on Hwy 60/Washington Avenue to 12th Ave.N. Green Bay Road, about 1.7miles

THEN

  • Drive north on 12th/Green Bay for 8/10 mile. Grafton Aquatic Center is on the left.
  • Park at the north end of the Aquatic Center
  • Walk on the trail at the north end of the lot, 2/10 mile to the Ozaukee Interurban Trail
  • Walk across Green Bay Road on the Trail and watch for signs.

3. Bratt Woods Nature Preserve

  • From Bike Path Island, walk across the bridge over Bike Path Island about 3/10 mile
  • Entrance is on the left. (We are not using the E. Cedar Creek Road entrance!) 4. Riveredge Nature Center - West
  • The address is 4259 W Hawthorne Dr, West Bend (although it is east of Newburg)
  • From Bratt Woods and Bike Path Island drive north on CTH O until it joins Hwy 33

OR

  • From I-43 take Exit 96 for westbound Hwy 33.

THEN

  • Head west on Highway 33 for CTH Y in Newburg, about 7.3 miles.
  • Turn North on CTH Y for 4/10 mile.
  • Parking is on the left. Look for Treasures signs and a flag!

Riveredge Nature Center - West

Lat/Long 43.432775, -88.035184

• The address is 4259 W Hawthorne Dr, West Bend (although it is east of Newburg)
• From Bratt Woods and Bike Path Island drive north on CTH O until it joins Hwy 33
OR
• From I-43 take Exit 96 for westbound Hwy 33.
THEN
• Head west on Highway 33 for CTH Y in Newburg, about 7.3 miles.
• Turn North on CTH Y for 4/10 mile.
• Parking is on the left. Look for Treasures signs and a flag!

5. Hawthorne Hills County Park (NORTH OF GOLF COURSE)

Lat/Long 43.454350, -87.975547

  • From Riveredge, take Hawthorne Drive east until it stops at CTH I, then go north about a mile to Pioneer Village.

OR

  • Take I-43 to exit 96 for Hwy 33.
  • Head west on Highway 33 for CTH I, about 2.3 miles
  • Head north on CTH I for 4.1 miles.

THEN

  • Turn right at the entrance to Pioneer Village and drive past it.
  • Take the left fork in the road and continue about 2/10 mile.

6. Forest Beach Migratory Preserve

Lat/Long 43.458343,-87.815376

  • From Hawthorne Hills, go north on CTH I to CTH A.
  • Go east 4.9 miles on CTH A to CTH LL.
  • Turn south on CTH LL about 1 mile
  • Turn east and follow the sharp left bend shortly before you reach the clubhouse.

OR

  • From I-43 to Exit 100, turn right, then left at the stop light (CTH LL)
  • Take County Highway LL north out of Port Washington to County Highway P/ Dixie Road, about 3.5 miles.
  • Turn east and follow the sharp left bend shortly before you reach the clubhouse.
