Blue Heron Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Saukville, is a new treasure well worth taking the time to explore. This truly beautiful and spectacular place is a real gem. Its 92 acres bordering the Milwaukee River have seemingly endless well maintained trails for hiking year round and cross-country skiing in winter. The trails move through different habitats including wooded areas and grasslands. President of the board, Annamarie Dittmar, even said there have been otters sighted on the river.

The sanctuary is also part of an animal rehab program. Wild animals are rescued and afterward released onto the property.

The property is open from sunrise to sunset with outdoor bathrooms and picnic areas located along the trails with tables to sit and enjoy the view.
