Port Washington -- A 56-acre wooded natural area along the Milwaukee River would be added to Hawthorne Hills County Park and opened to the public, under a resolution approved Wednesday by a majority of the Ozaukee County Board's natural resources committee.
The natural area is part of a 62.5-acre property in the Town of Fredonia acquired by Ozaukee County in a tax foreclosure more than 10 years ago. It is located immediately north of Hawthorne Hills on the west bank of the river.
The resolution designates the remaining 6.5 acres for parks operations and maintenance, in recognition of its current use, said Supervisor Patrick Marchese of Mequon, the committee chairman.
