Route M-10 Milwaukee River – Saukville to Grafton

Location: Grafton Show More
Hits: 8252

Suburban “backyards” most of the way.

This route is mostly class #1 flat water with some class 1.5 rapids. You may scrape bottom in low water below 6.5*.  Winds from North are favorable.

Launch at town of Grafton canoe landing 1 mile south of Saukville on Hwy O.  Landing is ~30 yd. from parking.  No toilet.

Take-out at the ADA accessible ramp at Veterans Memorial Park in Grafton on right/west side of the river before Hwy 60 Bridge. Toilet facilities are available.  Parking is 30 yards from the landing on 15th street, north of Hwy 60/ Washington Street.

Note for those wishing to continue downstream south of Grafton

The Milwaukee Urban Water Trail Map (2018) indicates a portage of 1,200 feet from Grafton Veterans Park to continue downstream on the Milwaukee River. This portage runs across busy Hwy 60 and a commercial area, then to the river behind an old mill. It may be difficult to find the re-entry next to the mill parking lot, because it is down a 30’ bank, making boat carry difficult. Launch here is into fast water below the dam. Experience with rapids is necessary. For a better route proceed to Lime Kiln Park M-11.

Shuttle 4 miles from Grafton via Hwy O to town of Grafton landing 1 mile south of Saukville.
