- In 2005-2007, Ozaukee County completed an inventory of fish passage barriers in the Milwaukee River Watershed, documenting over 150 impediments on 11 project streams.
- On June 9, 2009, the County was awarded a $4.7 Million Grant from the National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration (NOAA) as part of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) to remove documented barriers on the Milwaukee River and 9 tributaries. Project areas include:
